Start date for class changed to February 5, 2014

Hello everyone,

I am very sorry for the last minute change, but I have to change the start date for the beginning djembe and dun dun class because I have a change in travel plans.  The class will be 7-8:30 p.m. every Wednesday evening for eight weeks beginning February 5, 2014.  Please let me know before the class, if you want to sign up for the eight week session.

Adult Djembe Class:  Class Description: Beginner and intermediate drumming class. Learn basic djembe drumming techniques, and traditional and non-traditional interlocking djembe rhythms. Learn to solo and play accompaniments and dun duns. Understand how to use ghosting (tapping into the space between sound) to create your own unique rhythms and solo phases and learn to move with the constant sound and vibration. Learn to relax so to transition from mental to muscle memory and reflexes to play the rhythms and solo patterns effortlessly. Understand the philosophy of time and rhythm.

What to bring: Djembe, paper, pencil, and if you have any recording device it would help. Let me know if you need a djembe to borrow during class.

Place: Goodman Community Center 149 Waubesa St, Madison, WI 53704, (608)[masked]. The class will be held in the Teen Center Loft

Day: Wednesday evenings beginning on February 5, 2014

Time: 7-8:30pm

Cost: $80 for an eight-class package or $13 for a drop in (for the eight-class package please pay the entire cost on the first day of class)

I bought two 5 Gal. buckets from Farm and Fleet. As I walked thru the store to the register I was beating on them buckets as if they were a one sided Midranga. I saw a few people bob their head up and down to my beat... The cashier lady laughed. I still had the drum circle on my mind. Lol.

Does anyone know where I could have a drum head tuned? And how much it might cost? I may have a drum I can use after the first class but it has a new head that hasn't been tuned. Thanks for any thoughts!

    Hi Elmore,

I'm also new to drumming and have no drum. Do you have another one I could borrow, until I make other arrangements?

    Thanks!

Hello :) found this through my sister and I would like to attend but have never drummed (have always wanted to learn) so I have no drum to bring. Would it be possible to borrow one first week till I can make other arrangements & have an idea what to look for?

I have had this ceramic like drum for 20 years but never played. It has a quasi-djembe shape. I'll bring it along if I can get over my embarrassment; curious what you might think of it.
