Drum Circle & Picnic

Saturday, October 27

6:00 - 10:00 p.m.

We have a beautiful location reserved at Picnic Point (site 6) located at the far end of picnic point.  Let's gather together along the shore of Lake Mendota for a drum circle and picnic.

Note: The distance from the entrance of Picnic Point to fire circle #6 is approximately 0.75 miles (1.2 km); it’s about a 15 minute walk.

Bring your own packed dinner, beverage and a chair or blanket.
There are no picnic tables at this location.
Firewood is provided by the preserve.

I liked the drumming very much. I came late and left early, but I had fun participating with my little bongo drum and maracas or letting my grandson play either also. I enjoyed the drumming rhythms.

    Lola,

Is site #6 actually on the extreme point/peninsula?

Yes, walk all the way to the end of point.

As some might notice, I am not from the Madison area and haven't been to the Lake area either. So I am coming to a totally unfamiliar area but based on what I am reading, this will be fun. Is site #6 actually on the extreme point/peninsula? I believe I will be able to find the parking lot (129 or 130). Looking forward to this first time meetup for me.

Judy, some people use a wagon/stroller/cart/cooler with wheels. I've always carried my stuff and some times make multiple trips. You may be interested in a drum carrying case. My djembe drum came with a hand made case with awesome carrying straps (Glenn McCulloch, the group's organizer, made my drum and case).

Thanks so much for the reply, Karen. Perhaps a drum case is in order! :-)

Sounds like great fun and I'm sorry I can't go, but I have a logistical question for future meetups. How do you carry a drum (mine's pretty heavy), dinner, and a chair to the end of picnic point. Just wondering????

Judy,That's great question. I thought about that too so I'm borrowing a friend's golf cart. I'm going to bungee on my drum and food so the walk to the end of Picnic Point should be fairly easy. I'm bringing a seat cushion not a chair because their is a circular stone bench all around the fire pit.

Thanks Ray. A golf cart is a great solution! Good to know about the stone bench, too. I've been out there, but I guess I didn't pay too much attention to the bench. A pad is a good idea! Have fun!!!

    Kathy,
Are we going to be in the new circle at the very end of Picnic Point?

sdc, Dogs are allowed on leash at Picnic Point so you could bring him to the circle if you would like. He may prefer the RV, but either way is up to you both. Hope you can make it.
