Madison Skeptics presents Elliott Sober

Our next Madison Skeptics meeting will be this coming Sunday, May 17th, at 2:30pm at the Middleton Public Library. Elliott Sober, Hans Reichenbach Professor and William F. Vilas Research Professor in the Department of Philosophy at University of Wisconsin-Madison, will be presenting on his specialty of the philosophy of biology. More information about Dr. Sober, as well as information about his latest book, Evolution and Evidence, can be found at
http://philosophy.wis... and
http://en.wikipedia.o.... After the meeting, as is our tradition, a group of us will be getting something to eat at the Hubbard Street Diner, next door to the library, and anyone who is interested is welcome to join us. As usual, if anyone needs a ride, I recommend posting to the message boards on Facebook (
http://www.facebook.c...) and on Meetup. Sorry about getting this out so late; it's been a full weekend. -Jennifer

Dr. Sober's talk was somewhat surprising, a "debate" between William James and W. K. Clifford: is it ever OK to believe in something for which you lack evidence? An unexpected topic which led to some wonderful discussion. Dr. Sober indulged us in our usual rambling musings and topic switches. A great meeting!
