MSSC is always trying to offer more to our players. This summer, we will be hosting two free camps to allow our participants to learn more about flag rugby, a sport that combines flag football and soccer. If we have enough interest, the sport will make its appearance in the MSSC lineup sometime this year. MSSC will be working with Bruce Hill from Madison United Rugby to introduce the sport to our players. We will have two free camps on the following dates:
Thursday, June 6th at 6:30 pm
Saturday, June 8th at 9:30 am
Both camps will be held at Olin Park on John Nolen Drive on the fields near the boat launch. You can attend one or both! We are offering two options, as we know everyone's schedules are different. The camps should last about two hours, but you don't have to stay for the entire event. Bruce will cover the basics of the game and run some drills, and then we will have a scrimmage for those interested in giving it a try, so come dressed to play.
Bruce Hill is Director of Rugby Development for Madison United Rugby. http://www.madisonunitedrugby.org. A member of the Wisconsin Rugby Club since 1970, he founded and has organized a youth flag rugby program since 2010. He is a USA Rugby certified coach. He wants to share the sport of rugby with everyone who likes to "get out and run around!"
For a short introduction to flag rugby, check out this video: Intro to Flag Rugby. It was produced in Ireland, so the terms used in the game are different, but it will still give you a basic overview of the game.
