Do you need to be a really good developer to attend this event? Just asking because I don't want to be completely out of loop if I attend the event.

I don't know the details of the Wifi there, or how I can find out. I think you'll have to show up and see.

People will get a chance to pitch their ideas and then you can join whatever group you want

Hi, I am coming alone. This would be my first time on a hacklaton. How will it work ? is there a something I can read up about it ? Will I be working on things alone or will I be added to a group random :)

Sorry, can't come.. I hope it goes really well ! I'd be very interested in the results and docs following on from the weekend, have fun !

September 22nd/23rd is a weekend? I'd imagine a fair proportion of people will be spending time with their friends and families? Perhaps a weekday may be better option?

    August 28, 2012

    • Arush Sehgal

We did suggest that, but it seems most people don't work for startups and can't get time off work...

      1 · August 28, 2012

  • Karen Baker

I vote for 22/23 Sept. Why don't we now firm up the date so that people can get this in the calendar. You are never going to get a scenario where everyone can attend, I think someone just needs to put a stake in the ground here.

    August 28, 2012

  • Marcell Kiss-Toth

    Anyone up for 22/23?

    August 24, 2012

  • Lee Bolding

So, I was wrong last night when I said October... the developers paradise is end of September

So, my suggested dates are either the weekend before (22nd & 23rd September or the weekend after 29th & 30th September)

My preference is 22/23 as I think that people will want to stay in Ibiza for a few days afterwards, rather than come to London for more hacking.. it'll also get them in the mood for the Dev Paradise

This is only about 6 weeks away though, so we'll need to decide quickly (and announce) if we want to hit either of these dates

    August 16, 2012

  • Szabolcs (Sam) Ban

What about a doodle with the possible dates?

    August 16, 2012

  • Arush Sehgal

Sooner the better I think. Sept is Dev's Paradise, so IMO lets do it in August

    July 30, 2012

  • Lee Bolding

I don't know about anybody else, but I'll be at Reading Festival on those dates :)

At the moment, we're looking at either the weekend immediately before or immediately after the Magento developers paradise in Ibiza. Currently trying to work out which is better, and how to arrange getting people to an airport on-time if it's the weekend before

I'm also discussing sponsorship opportunities with potential sponsors, for things like food and drink for the weekend for all participants

    July 30, 2012

  • Colin Turner

How much lead time is needed to prepare? Nobody's putting any dates down that I can see. How about 25-26 August with 22nd August deadline for hack list suggestions. Can we put together a Hackathon Planning Meeting (Coffee Shop, Chat Room, Conference Call, something)

    July 30, 2012

  • Mark Slocock

Its a great idea, I think plenty of advice a warning required so we can plan ahead!

    June 29, 2012

  • Chris Whittington

I'm a developer and this sounds pretty interesting. Would need more details about the goals of the hackathon. Is it based around teams or individuals?

    June 8, 2012

  • Lee Bolding

TBH, I think a few hours won't be sufficient to achieve very much. More realistically, a Saturday/Sunday or the whole weekend would be required to actually get anything done I'm happy to help plan - let's see what others want to get out of it, and then plan around that. Maybe a good idea would be to have a few "tracks" - 1) new features 2) bug fixes (in general) and 3) site specific issues (magento clinic)

    June 8, 2012

  • Mitch Goldman

Lee -- can you please help set the Goal and structure of this Hackathon? I've never been at a Hackathon before and I'm not a developer, just a lowly project manager who like to help organise meetings like this so that you others can get their best work done.

    June 8, 2012

  • Mitch Goldman

Just not 4-July, because that's the next regular Meetup with Peer1/MixPanel. We could use the one after that, 1-Aug, if you like, and if the other organisers don't mind or didn't have anything planned already.

Personally I'd go for new features, bugs might be ok but I'd say we would need to have a list of bugs to fix, plus they'd have to be interesting ones! :) would be good to make a new feature which is fairly small and relies on an existing technology, something you wouldn't do in your day-to-day work, like implementing a cache handler, or some such?

    June 8, 2012

  • Ivan Fraixedes

What do you think about 6th of July?

    June 8, 2012

  • Lee Bolding

Great idea! I've been thinking of planning a Mage+ hackathon, to get some of the current outstanding bugs fixed - obviously, with the Mage+ release model, this means they're immediately available to the entire Magento community :)

Just curious, what is the GOAL of this hackathon? is it to fix bugs within Magento? or bugs specific to members installations? to develop new features/functionality? or something else?

Awesome :) I'm up for pretty much any date in July or August really.
