Winter Cache Project Weekly Work Party

The mission of the Winter Cache Project (WCP) is to free ourselves from a dependence on industrial agriculture and to increase our community food security by developing sustainable local food systems. By growing and storing our own food to last throughout the winter and educating ourselves about agricultural issues, we aim to create a working example of how we can come together as a community to provide for our basic needs by employing the principles of mutual aid, equal access, and self-determination.

Last week we didn't know if we would be rained out, but we weren't! We got a lot of beds weeded and we installed a new bed of tomatoes with some basil, borage and onion companions. We also have a great start to a solar dehydrator that remains a work in progress. The design is Ian Toal's, of the Bettie the Bus Initiative, with material collaboration from the Winter Cache Project community.

This group meets every Sunday at Pleasant Acres Farm for a work party from 10am - 2pm. If you come to this event you will:

  • garden as a revolutionary act with a diverse community farmers
  • grow your own food and increase food security in the community
  • apply your skills to a productive farm while changing the world
  • learn how to build a solar dehydrator
  • learn from other people in the community

Car Pool:

If you are in Portland, we have a carpool. We meet at 9:30 am and leave at 9:40 am. Meet at Urban Farm Fermentory (200 Anderson street). Plan on that if you have a ride or need one.

Don't forget a water bottle and lunch.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
