Please join us for potluck meal and then a special talk by Chuck Lakin, who will lead us through a discussion of alternatives to the usual forms of funerals and burials in our culture.
Chuck will start with the basics of general planning, legal documents to have in order, conversations to have with family members and similar issues. Then we will move into a more detailed conversation on options such as home funerals, green cemeteries, alkaline hydrolysis, family burying grounds, scattering ashes, and anything you want to know! Chuck says, "We’ll share stories. I’d bet that you’ll even laugh sometimes."
We will also have a sign up for a summer field trip to Cedar Brook Burial Ground in Limington, for those who would like to visit one of Maine's two green burial grounds.
Please come at 6:00 with a dish/beverage to share and your potluck kit (dish/bowl/utensils/napkin/cup). The program will start at 6:30, and will be in the downstairs of The Old White Church. Please park in the parking lot or along the road on the same side of the street.
More About Chuck Lakin:
Chuck is a woodworker and home funeral educator, whose interest in this topic
came from his experience at his father's death. He wanted to be part of what happened after the death, but didn't know what to do, and missed out. Now he knows and wants to share that information. More info can be found at “Last Things: Alternatives at the End of Life” (www.lastthings.net)
