I am interested in looking into the possibility of starting a tool/seed/food preservation library in Portland, and I am wondering if there are others who think this might work and would like to be involved/informed!

This is a great idea. Let's talk about it here and spread the word. I can help convene a discussion in the next few weeks to get this off the ground.

I'd be very interested and have a number of tools I can add to the mix. I think a lot of people think only of "big" tools (like things you'd rent - cement mixers, tile saws, etc) for this, but it's ridiculous that every house on my block has a power drill (or three), sanders, hammers, hedge clippers, etc., when many of these items are quite durable (lendable), only get used from time to time and could be easily lent/borrowed.

Speaking of renting, a small fee could apply to tools that require maintenance (like gas-powered items or ones that need sharpening, etc); I'd certainly rather my $80 for a day of renting a wet tile saw go to a good cause...

I'd also like to add the idea that "tools" should, from the beginning, incorporate any tool of any trade, not just carpentry/remodeling. For example, stand mixers, deep fryers, paint rollers and trays, kill-a-watts (which can be borrowed from the PPL already), etc.

I am interested in a tool share as well, and see it as an opening to help re-skill. There are many tools I honestly don't know how to properly use.

On a different but related note, I've been thinking about posting to this group about starting a fix-it movement in greater Portland.

Something similar to this : http://fixerscollecti...

I don't have enough time to pull it off myself but am good at organizing and would love to work with someone/a group who was similarly inspired to get something going.

I'd love to be part of the discussion and learn how this could work. I'm not in the Portland area, but I'd like to see if this could translate to the Buxton/Hollis/Bar Mills area. It's a fabulous idea.

Hi All,

We have been working on getting the tool library off the ground, and would like some if you have a few minutes to fill out this survey that would be very helpful!
