From Our Homelands to the Tar Sands: Perspectives from Alberta and Maine

The sprawling tar sands operations in Alberta, Canada, are causing massive destruction to the environment and local communities. Hear firsthand from Melina Laboucan-Massimo, a member of the indigenous Lubicon Cree First Nation in northern Alberta, about what's happening at the source of the tar sands pipeline that is threatening Maine. She’ll tell us about the social, health, and environmental harm tar sands extraction is inflicting on her community and around the world.

Dylan Voorhees, NRCM’s clean energy director, will provide the Maine perspective and answer questions about the risks Maine faces from tar sands, and Chief Kirk Francis of the Penobscot Nation will give welcoming remarks.

Join NRCM on Wednesday, April 17th at Hannaford Hall, USM, Portland. The presentation will start at 7:00 p.m. Light desserts and coffee will be served at 6:30 p.m.

This public presentation is free but with limited space. Register to reserve your seat!
