Talk on Co-ops and Local Food Security to be held at the Belfast Free Library

"How Co-ops Can Contribute to Local Food Security" is the title of a talk by Bob St.Peter to be held in the Abbott Room at the Belfast Free Library on Saturday, December 6 at 2:30pm. St.Peter is the membership coordinator for Food for Maine's Future and a subsistence farmer. The talk will focus on how community groups can work together to support local farmers and build a just and sustainable local food system. Proposals to be discussed include forming a buyers cooperative to purchase directly from local and regional farms and creative strategies for helping new farmers get established. There will also be a cider and cider vinegar tasting with Bob Sewall of Sewall's Orchard in Lincolnville. He will speak about the benefits of raw cider and the federal regulations that forced him to shut down the wholesale part of his 30-year old raw cider business.
