Meet-Up Sunday Oct 5Th. Folk Festival-Willistown Pa.

The Schuylkill Valley Boys would like to invite you to our First Annual?? Ukulele Folk Festival. We've reserved a pavilion at the Garrett Mill Park located on West Chester Pike and route 926 just west of Newtown Square. The location is 8 minutes away from route 202 and 12 minutes from the Blue Route. The pavilion has toilet rooms. Just bring a chair and music stand and we'll provide the music.
Our music will be a tribute to those great Folk singers of the 60's; Peter, Paul and Mary, The Kingston Trio, Bob Dylan, Bob Seeger, Judy Collins, Arlo Guthrie, The Brothers Four, The New Christy Minstrels, and more.
We'll post the music beforehand on the site. More details and specific directions will follow.

Thanks everyone for coming. I learned quite a bit yesterday. Next year, God willing, we'll move back to Sept and hopefully warmer weather. I also changed the key of a number of song so they would be easier to play but didn't consider the impact on singing the songs. Everyday is a new learning experience.
We're glad you enjoyed it, I had a ball!!

I felt like you guys kept things going, and I loved that! You put the songs up early, so people could practice them! So great to be with all of you! You guys did a great job yesterday!!!!

It was super fun for us all to get together under one "roof" and to share songs and good times. I really appreciate that the event was so well planned and so welcoming to everyone. Key problems are incredibly minor compared to the good spirit that was generated and the great time that was had by all. Thanks again! Susan G

You were there in spirit. We all spoke of you and how grateful we are that you started this meet-up. And we sang, "in the Jailhouse Now" which I think is one of your favorites. Susan G

Hi all - Kathleen is unable to go...Anyone else want to carpool from Ambler?

    September 27, 2014

    • Peggy L.

Anne, thanks for the offer to carpool, but it looks likely that I'll drive on my own 'cause I'm going to the Downingtown area afterward and Ret doesn't know his schedule yet. (He was gonna pick me up on his way.) Yes, I have your # & might be in touch as we sort through things.

I just downloaded the songbook for Oct. 5th. What a great selection!! Thanks, Bob, Joe, and Sam! Here's my method for printing out multi-page songbooks. Download the pdf file onto your computer. Then copy the file onto a thumb drive. Take the thumb drive to a Kinko's that has printers that print out from thumbdrives (like the one in Wynnewood). Use double-sided printing, which takes less paper and makes the songbooks more compact. Use Kinko's 3 hole punch (sometimes have to ask person at counter) and you are ready to tuck it into a binder (Staples has cheap ones). Looking forward to seeing everyone Oct. 5th!

    Excellent suggestion!!

  • Bob G.

Hi gang, it's Bob from the Schuylkill Valley Boys. After playing through the list of songs there are a few changes we'd like to make to the music. The songs will remain the same as shown in the index but we will be substituting new versions for Blowing in the Wind, When Johnny Comes Marching Home and Those were the Day. We'll give all of you new copies when we see you on the 5th. Mostly chord changes or corrections, really no big deal. If anyone needs more specific directions post a note and we'll follow it up.

I will leave my house in Ambler at noon, if folks want to ride along, and/or caravan from this area. Email me at [masked] if you want to ride or meet.....I have one person who has asked, have room for two more.

    September 24, 2014

  • Bob G.

Hi folks, Anne Smith was kind enough to add the music to the file above for the Oct 5th meet-up.
Number 5 is out of place appearing first. The second 2 sheets are the list of songs, the rest follow in order.
Please print out all the songs so everyone attending will have their own copy. I'll try to bring a couple extra sets.
Also we will have a sharing table so you might like to bring a snack along to share with the gang. Bring your own beverages. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted. There are toilet facilities at the pavilion and they will be available.
I'm looking forward to seeing you on the 5th.

Hi all! Bob sent me the file for this one and it is loaded up to the More/Files Section. Called it Schuylkill Boys tunes....

  • Ginny K.

Just for clarification what address or location will we meet?
Is there a song list ?

    September 10, 2014

    • Bob G.

Ginny, I never responded to your question, I apologize. First of all there is a song book, I'm trying to figure out how to post it as a file. Second the park is located on the corner of West Chester Pike, route 3 and Garrett Mill Road which is route 926. The town is Willistown just west of Newtown Square.

Put me down as a strong "maybe." This sounds like a lot of fun. Total newbie, want to learn more.

    Will try! Sounds great.

When Sam and I come to your house it usually takes about 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. From your house you could take the Blue Route to route 3, West Chester Pike then make a right on route 3.

      September 10, 2014

    • Anne Stevenson S.

Thanks Bob! I lived in West Chester for years, will find it!

      September 10, 2014

We have a conflict. A house concert with Moira Craig and Carolyn Robson the same afternoon. So we will not be coming. I will still pass it on to the other uke people here.

I hope you have a wonderful time.

This sounds marvelous! My son is visiting from GA that weekend, so I'll have to be a maybe, too. Hope to see you.

A ukeulele fest! Thank you Schuylkill Valley Boys. It's a family member's birthday, but going to see what can be arranged. . May I put myself down as tentative until closer to the date?

    • Bob G.

      Absolutely!!

      August 27, 2014

  • Jane

Darn! I sing in the morning and am rehearsing in Philly in the evening for a different performance. I could possibly squeeze in an hour of ukulele, but count me as a maybe.

    August 27, 2014

    • Bob G.

We'll take that hour (or maybe two?). I'll give you a fast route to Philly.

      August 27, 2014

I am putting it on my calendar and plan to attend. This sounds like a great time.
