Make:SF @ The TechShop March 12th

Hello Makers

We want to see the cool stuff you all are doing! So email us if you have something you want to show off and we will arrange a demo.

In celebration of the lighting of the Baylights the workshop this month is making and programming full color animated RGB LEDs strips! In the workshop we solder together a strip of full color animated RGB LEDs. Andrew and Malcolm will go over how the LED strips work, and how to connect them to a power supply and logic board (a tiny microcontroller computer running a test pattern.) By the end of this workshop, you'll have a working LED strip and a harness to connect it to the included power supply and an Arduino microcontroller.

The materials fee for the workshop is $35 but if you already have one of these LED strips then bring it and it is free. Anca and Michael will be a leading a group to program your strip with some new code.  We've been compiling some different patterns to share with you - or bring your own explorations.

A fun-for-all-ages event. Children under 14 need to be accompanied by an adult.

See you soon!

Sorry, it turns out I can't make this one. Hopefully you have another, because I'd really like to make some programable lights for my bike!

Looking forward to the event! Just got in from the waiting list today so I feel a little under prepared. Have a laptop. Have an Arduino (purchased in 2009?) No other supplies and haven't done Ardunio stuff in a long time. Hope that's ok :)

Yes, LPD8806. We are using code based on the AdaFruit site code.

Bring an LPD8806 strip if you have one from previous Make:SF meetups, or workshop weekend... or if you bought your own. Please bring your laptop and an Arduino if you have one. We may have 1 or 2 extra.

We will have the strip, power supplies, and other supplies. (in limited quantities.)

    What should we bring?

Which strips will you be using? I have a 1 meter LPD8806 strip that I could bring but want to make sure it's compatible with the code you are doing.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
