Make:SF South 3/20 @ The Tech Shop SJ - Custom Made Hula Hoops!

This month it's back to crafting with project that's both fun and good for you:  Hula Hoops! Hula Hoops are not just for kids. With a larger, properly weighted hoop, most people can participate in hooping  - and there are communities all over the Bay Area where you can play and learn.  You're going to make and decorate a custom sized hoop just for you.  Also one of our members said she can bring by her "hooping" troupe to give a demo (thanks Judy!)

 (Courtesy of madmarv00 on Flickr) After we are done with the basic hoop we will look circuits you can add later to trick your hoop out with LED's for some truly spectacular lighting effects.

This workshop will cost $10 for the supplies to make the basic hoop.  LED and lightup stuff is up to you.

This fun-for-all-ages event starts at 6:30pm. Children under 14 need to be accompanied by an adult.

We want to see the cool stuff you all are doing! So email us if you have something you want to show off and we will arrange a demo to start off.

    The group was most gracious in allowing us to make hoops with them. I am looking at building loop antennas and my daughter was looking at building a hoop for training her dog. I did try a little hulu, too.

    This time it was very rewarding to assist the "birth of new hoops" - (Mary's words), and encourage people to use them for fun and health. A special thanks to my fellow hoop jam peeps for supporting this activity as a "field trip", and for the tape supplies, making and hooping knowledge they shared.

    What made this meetup superlative was the participation of the local Hoop Jam folks. Their expertise in making and using hoops turned this from just "how to bend a piece of pipe into a hoop" into how to participate in a fun social exercise community.

    Well we might do that later as a weekend workshop since I have been advised it can take quite a while to do. Actually the tubing we have sourced for this project is black, so no good to add LEDs. But we'll be having some fun decorating them with multicolor tape. And leave the LEDs for another day. Hope you can still make it!

    This sounds fun! So if we want to make a hoop with LEDs we have to bring our own LEDs and stuff? I wouldn't know the first thing to buy. ;_;
