Make:SF South 4/24 @ TechShop SJ - RGB LED strip lights (BYO Arduino)

Hello Makers!

Ever wanted to use an Arduino to light up lots of LEDs? In April we'll be programming the Arduino to light up Full Color RGB LED strip lights. These enable each LED pixel to light to a different color and brightness (millions of colors).

This workshop comes in two basic flavors...

For $25 you get all the connectors and about a foot of LED strip (10 RGB LEDs and 5 LPD8806 ICs for you spec hounds) and a multi-purpose USB type power supply that you can additionally use to charge up anything with a USB connector (Phone, etc.)

For $40 you will get a full METER of LED lighting (32 RGB LEDs and 16 LPD8806 ICs) with connectors, now includes 5V 2Amp power supply.

The $25 or $40 includes the workshop fee and the parts. We'll be soldering the connectors, but most of the time will be spend experimenting with the Arduino code to see what lighting patterns we come up with.

Please BYO Arduino if you have one... We've used some of the membership proceeds to purchase Make:SF Arduino UNO R3s for folks to borrow who don't have one. If you want to buy one we'll have a handful available for an additional $30 added to the cost of the workshop... (No discounts here, $30 is the going rate.)

Also we want to see the cool stuff you all are doing! So email us if you have something you want to show off and we will arrange a demo to start off.

This fun-for-all-ages event starts at 6:30pm. Children under 14 need to be accompanied by an adult.

The materials are exciting, except that my technical understanding and limitations kept me from getting the lights lit before we were over, so I hope I can figure it out on my own =-( .

Andrew had some very cool toys to share! I think everybody managed to make their string of very bright, extremely colorful LEDs blink, glow and chase! Thanks!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
