We have gone through almost half a year, the first term of our club!
I would like to update some benefits that our members enjoy.
1. Our members have a twice-a-month regular schedule to practice their Mandarin speaking skills with a group of people who are doing the same thing. Every time, we have native speakers and Mandarin teachers give feedback to members' speeches on their grammar, pronounciation and word choice.
2. Now, we have our online system to upload our members' speeches, word of the day, and their explaination. If members didn't get the meaning right away in the meeting, they can check after. Here is our official website:
3. We have a brilliant language buddy program with A Chinese Toastmasters Club in Beijing. They are pairing up with our members to help each other learning and revising speeches via email and Skype. Thanks to Keiko, who arranged this program. If you want to be part of the language buddy program, please talk to our VP Public Relation, Keiko.
4. We have a regular mentor program set up locally, which means you can ask for a native speaker who is also a toastmaster to help you revise your speech or answer your questions outside of the club meetings. In the last six months, we have had more native speakers joining us to help out.
The two meetings of September will be the last two of the term. We will have a new chapter for the next term and new programs coming. (I will announce them once they are ready.) Since it is our own club and we will all contribute to the growth of this community. I am not the only one who decides the direction of the club. Every member can bring in their ideas and their contribution. We will run it for everyone's benefit.
Please note that starting from September, our meeting room will be different. It is the second floor of the RoundHouse Community Center.
In September 12th meeting, I will introduce a method called "Shadowing" for advanced Mandarin speakers. It is a very efficient method to practice Mandarin listening and speaking. That will take half of the meeting time. The other half will be table topics. So, if you want to be the Table Topics master, please sign up online. Grammarian and Cultural Story section, chair, timer, ah counter and other positions are open for signing up. Pleaes hurry.
Sept 26th meeting, we will have a club speech contest. If you have a speech ready, please register with me and get ready for that day. The winner of the speech contest will recieve a certificate from Toastmasters Club. We will also give you a detailed feedback (much more than regular meetings) on your speech. (More details are coming later.)
Please sign up now and I will see you in the club meeting!
