It was a great event, well organized and well planned. Everyone was very friendly and open. It brought back old sailing memories, taught me new things, and spurned me to sign up for crew. Thank you all, Beatrice

I apologize - I was one of those who "flaked", but I didn't know I was flaking. When I registered, it said the event was already full. I read about the wait-listing and looked for a list to put my name on and didn't find it. I didn't think I could attend. : /

or I think I'm one who flaked? It seems to me it said you already had 28 people attending when I signed up, so I'm assuming if you were expecting 50 people then you weren't actually "full" at the 28.

Hi Mary, If you were waitlisted, then you were one I was apologizing to! We had others who confirmed individually, to my email, in writing adn still didn't show. That caused problems for people like you. As for "full registration" we had several ways other than MeetUP to register, so if it said "full/waitlist" we were full; in fact, I OKed overbooking expecting some wouldn't show. Hope this helps! BTW, Santa Monica Windjammers YC is holding "Racing 101" tomorrow, 10 AM - 1 PM. Check it out!

I was one of the organizers. We ended up with 45 people of an expected 50. We apologize to anyone waitlisted; we did all we could to confirm with everyone who registered, but still some people flaked... We had gorgeous weather and good wind. Everyone seems to have learned something. Attendees hung around after the event, which, after 7 hours, tells me they were enjoying themselves! The 12 participating skippers also told me they enjoyed meeting new crew and taking them on the water. We're going to ask everyone who attended if they want to be on a crew list, then get that list out to skippers looking for crew. We'll also send out a blast on other resources to get racing. Thanks to everyone who came!

This was the coolest, most alive and generous day I've been blessed with in forever! Charlene, Tim, Rutter and everyone else involved--including the venue of the Del Rey Yacht Club--organized and put on a highly educational, inspirational and hands-on practical day of learning to race! The three morning learning sessions with different skippers followed by a complimentary lunch and then getting out on the boats all afternoon was just fabulous. It's hard to imagine that so much got accomplished between 9 and 4pm. If and when this is ever offered again, I can't recommend this enough. Great work all! And even though Duncan's boat "Trust Me" was the clear winner of the race (LOL!), everyone who attended was a winner.

The event is designed as an introduction to racing, we are expecting both those who have raced as well as novices new to the sport. It is designed to help crew get aquatinted with racing in Marina del Rey and to help people make connections and find information about how to crew on boats in Marina del Rey.
