Photowalk: Marin County Fair & Fireworks

In lieu of our monthly Photoshop SIG meeting, join us for an evening at the Marin County Fair including the fireworks show. This will be a "leaderless" Meetup, but by all means find other MPC members (& guests) and say "Hi!" Everyone is welcome. You'll have to pay for your admission to the fair. Many of us will arrive at 6:30pm. At 7:30 the Wailers (Bob Marley's band) take the stage, and that area of the fair should be packed. Sunset is at 8:30pm and the fireworks begin at 9:30. The arcade area makes for great photography starting with the late afternoon light and into the night. You'll probably want to bring a tripod.

And don't forget to see the photography exhibit. Many of our members are submitting their work again this year.

Try This: Using a telephoto lens (ex. 28to300mm), set your camera up on the tripod. Compose your shot to encompass the entire range of your lens. (Look at the composition at 28mm, and again look at the composition at 300mm.) Set your shutter speed range from 10 to 20 seconds. Aperture and ISO of choice. Start the exposure, move the lens from small (300mm) to large (28mm). Take the same shot only going from large to small. Fair rides are crazy fun subjects with all the lights and movements. Remember to always turn off vibration/image stabilization while using a tripod and turning it back on while hand holding. I wish I could be there, but I can't this year. I hope all of you are safe and have fun!!!

Doug: Do you know the location for the fireworks? I'd like to scout the area while there is daylight, thanks.

I will be at the fair on the first day (July 2) of the fair for the "Capturing Fair Memories" event that starts at 11 a.m. Not sure if I will be back the next day. If I am I will look for you all.

Yes, tripods are fine. I've used one for the past two years.

Just curious, are tripods allowed for sure? Just asking because I know the Sonoma County Fair only allows with special permission and only until sunset.
    Thanks, -Ken
