HDR Special Interest Group Photowalk

By an overwhelming majority we've decided to forego our usual classroom meeting and head out for a photowalk. Treasure Island was the most-popular location.

It's all about sunset (and later) views of the San Francisco skyline. The HDR challenge is to shoot the city almost directly into the sun -- a huge dynamic range.

Arrive at the Bliss Dance sculpture (see http://goo.gl/KS5Vv) between 5pm and 6pm. Sunset is 6:10pm. Parking is easy. At about 7pm we'll carpool to two secret locations from which we'll see both spans of the Bay Bridge closeup.

Dinner will be at 8pm at the Treasure Island Bar & Grill: http://www.yelp.com/biz/treasure-island-bar-and-grill-treasure-island-3

I'll be using the new Group feature of the Glympse app for smartphones (http://glympse.com/) to keep track of who's where and to let us find and follow one another. If you have an iPhone or Android phone, download the app and join the group "!mpc-ti". From about 4pm on Thursday you'll be able to see where anyone else in the group is located.

Thursday night was gorgeously clear between Treasure Island and San Francisco, tempting me to try a hi-res pano with the Nikon D800E. I think it worked out fairly well. The challenge is how to show it to you. The full-scale image is an uncompressed 160 megapixels. To give you a hint, here's a link to a 14 megapixel medium-compression JPEG version hosted in my Dropbox: http://goo.gl/7mozK. When you open it, scale it to full/actual size and pan through it. (Depending on your browser, you may have to download it and open it.) Lots to see in there! The full-size file is 38,828x4,306 pixels. Printed at a standard 240ppi, it would be 13.5' long and 18" high.

    Nikon D800E ISO[masked]mm f/28. Stitched from 8 HDR images, 5 exposures each (40 total frames) using Photoshop. 1.0 to 15.0 seconds, f/8, 155mm.

What about carpooling. Do we want to meet at a central place and see who wants to car pool. Janice are you interested in car pooling?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
