Calling documentary and street photographers.
Sometimes its good to go out with your camera and just photograph anything interesting that you come across. Other times though, having the challenge and pressure of a specific assignment can push you out of your comfort zone.
This is the first in a series of assignments designed to push you creatively, yet allow you to interpret it in your own way making it achievable regardless of whether you are just starting shooting in the street or are a seasoned documentary photographer.
The meeting place will be outside Christ Church Spitalfields just across from the market. Once you have rsvp'd I will also give out my phone number.
The assignment will take place around Brick Lane (outdoors) or Spitalfields (indoors). So, even if the weather is against us we have the option to shoot under cover.
If you are new to street photography and still gaining confidence these bustling locations are great for just blending into the scene.
The assignment is given out to you at the meeting place and you have two hours to complete it. What exactly the assignment is will only be revealed when you arrive. It could be shooting for a magazine article, poster, newspaper, report, book cover. Afterwards we will converge somewhere for refreshments and share pictures and experiences.
Following the assignment photographers upload up to 4 pictures to the site for comments and criticism.
There will be a completely arbitrary prize awarded to one of the photographers a week later once photos are uploaded - a free place at a following event. Judging will not necessarily be for the ‘best’ shot but could be for creative interpretation, technical ability or just sheer bloody nerve !
