So you want to be a travel photographer...

Some feedback from my last Travel Photography Workshop.

"Be warned- you will take away more ideas than you know what to do with"

"Very enjoyable and some interesting tips....gave me the confidence to get stuck in and have a crack at travel / stock side of things"

"Martin provided some very practical advice and tips and has inspired me to look differently at travel photography.......all presented in a relaxed style based on his years of experience in this field........."

It has never been easier to become a travel photographer – and it has also never been harder. Digital cameras, photoshop and cheap air travel have made it more affordable to produce travel pictures but they have also resulted in a huge amount of images from most of the accessible places in the world.

However - there are still opportunities to break into it, perhaps earn a living or just supplement your income and pay for your hobby. I won’t pretend that it is easy or may not require a little diversification along the way. But the opportunities are out there and I will show you how to start.

I have been taking travel pictures and selling them for 20 years. My work sells in picture libraries, to magazines all over the world, every national uk newspaper and many of the top guide books. I know what sells, who buys, what they are looking for and what they may pay you.

You can view some of my work here.

Some of the topics I will be covering;

Where you should go and when - not necessarily far !

What you should photograph when you are there and what is perhaps not worth photographing.

What sells and what doesn’t – not always what you think !

How to market your photos

How to get published

How to sell your photos though picture libraries and other online places

This time I will be holding the workshop on a weekend. This means I can extend the workshop and also provide lunch.

This talk is limited to just 6 photographers and is being held on Sunday May 19th from 11.00 – 15.00. The cost is £49 which includes lunch and it takes place at my Shoreditch studio by Old Street station.

Perhaps my expectations were a bit modest, but this was the most interesting meet up I've attended for several months.

This was my first meetup and I found it to be enjoyable, informative and very relaxed. I learned a lot but my perspectives about travel photography have been turned on their head. Thank you to Martin for hosting the event and for providing lunch. Thank you too to my fellow attendees who also contributed a lot. I look forward to coming to another workshop soon.

    Hi Martin

Would it be correct to assume I need bring no equipment, other than notebook, biro...and an appetite?

    • martin

That's right - those 3 things. You may need an extra notebook and and spare biro too !
