Moss Workshop

If mosses intrigue you when you hike but you wonder exactly what you are seeing, this is your chance to figure it out in a fun environment. On the last Saturday of each month, we'll take a closer look at a moss or two and work together to identify them. We'll introduce you to the vocabulary and work through moss keys together. A walk down your street will never be the same!

Thanks for the info, I've stashed the link. Is there an online version of the key we were using?

I wonder what an "entodon" is (seeing as how that's in the common name), and how such could be seductive.

This refers to the Greek 'ent' (within)+ 'odont' (tooth) and refers to the peristome teeth being inserted below the mouth of the capsule.

County records for mosses in Maryland is published in Evansia 26(4):193-218. We usually have this with us at the monthly gatherings.

Today's moss, _Entodon seductrix_, is also found on the Tree of Life website: http://eol.org/pages/890776/overview, with images of the moss, herbaria pages, and a crude distribution map that seems to suggest that it is not formally documented in Maryland.
