Drawing from Nature

This program is for people who have an interest in sketching natural objects.

We meet on the third Thursday of each month from 7-9pm to sketch specimens from our natural history collections as well as natural objects found by our volunteers and naturalists. Adults are welcome to bring refreshments to enjoy while sketching.

Everyone from novice to seasoned artist is welcome.

The cost is FREE for members and $5 for non-members. You may want to bring a hand lens or magnifying glass along with the art supplies you’ll use for sketching.

Please join us to practice your sketching skills and spend an enjoyable evening with other nature and art lovers.

Drawing from Nature was a very nice experience,
as it was my first time visiting the site, and first time drawing from a nature object. I especially liked the warm welcoming and support from members.
I was a bit surprised when I realized I was required to bring art supplies. I would like to Thank the members (names?) that offered me tips on drawing, pencils and sketch paper. The classical music in the background was quite transcending…I look forward to the next meetup.

Nice place with a lot of potential. Seemed like a nice group of people, but would have vastly preferred quiet to the intrusive, blasting music. When I came in the music was blasting a rock radio station and they conceded a change to classical, but "the volume control was broken" so they couldn't turn it down. I finally put ear plugs in, in self defense. If I wanted a noisy place to work, I could have stayed home. I had just come from a very stressful day at work and didn't feel like I needed to be stressed doing something I like to do for fun. Also music not conducive for conversation. Otherwise, I produced a decent drawing and was pleased to see what looked like a decent selection of items to draw

Thank you, Deborah, for your honest feedback. I will make sure your comment is forwarded to our volunteers that hosted the event. I'm glad you otherwise enjoyed drawing items from our natural history collections.
