Songs of Insects Walk

Join USGS entomologist Sam Droege for a Songs of Insects walk around Overlea.  We’ll be listening to insect songs and trying to catch a glimpse of the singers: katydids and crickets.

This walk will help you get ready to participate in Cricket Crawl 2012—an evening sound census of late summer insects on August 24.  As we walk we’ll be focusing on the eight target species of the Crawl. To preview and listen to those eight, and to learn about the Crawl itself, visit

The insect walk was splendiferous! I learned a lot about song identification and I am really excited to try out my new skills for the cricket crawl!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
