Introduction

I love being outdoors learning about nature--especially mosses.

  • Thankyou for the welcome. I'm not a trained naturalist but look forward to learning. The photo was taken a month ago in the Adirondaks . I heard about your group from a naturalist at the Irvine center. Anyhow, I've been wondering about how one goes about encouraging or cultivating moss growth (I've got a moist, shady spot) and have heard about moss milkshakes? Anyhow, looking forward. Will it be all lab or lab/hike? And how much time should I allow? Thanks again, glenn

  • Hi Linda, Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to make the bee exploration, but I was wondering if you knew of a drawing of a bee with their wings splayed out? I have been thinking about getting a small bee tattoo (very detailed and only in black), but I can't seem to find a picture I like. Do you know a scientific book that might give me a picture I'm looking for? Thanks! (We met at the Moss workshop, and I was a student of yours at Friends School)

  • Thank you, Linda, for the welcome. I'm very excited to be a part of the group. I am interested in learning about all facets of nature, although I am particularly drawn to amphibians and birds. Your moss workshop also sounds great and I look forward to attending one soon!

  • Hi,
I'd like to come. Karl, my husband, mentioned he was interested also. I can help with the newsletter. I can send you an example of the e-alert I do now for SECDC. Charlie may be on the list already or I can forward the e alert to you. Would you like a copy?

  • Hi Linda-
Thank you for the great presentation today. All the girls are talking about it! We are passing on the info on the Meetup in our parent's email. Is tomorrow night open to children also?

  • I take my daughter on personal nature hikes all the time. But I'd like to do it with more kids. I worked as a naturalist one summer long ago and gave nature hikes to whole groups of kids, and the wonder on their faces was priceless. The way they fed off each other was even better. So what I want is simple - quality time outside with other families. And I'm willing to help.

  • A Maryland geology meeting would be fun. I'm always interested in learning about different aspects of science that I can't fit into my courseload. I think it's good to have a wide variety of interests.
