Calculus: Part One - The Basics

Come learn the basics of calculus! Among the topics we'll be discussing are:

• A brief history with an attempt to reconstruct the insight that led to its simultaneous discovery

• Intuitive ways to interpret calculus notation to understand the meaning behind the symbols

• The mechanics of calculus with several identities

• The Fundamental Theorem of calculus

The chief goal will be to enable you to walk away with the ability to intuitively read calculus equations and compute basic calculus operations.

Nile has an excellent grasp of the material and communicated it in a way that was easy to understand. The only thing keeping me from rating it "Great" is the location (see below).

Apparently the 2nd part of the review doesn't get published here...the location was very noisy, w/ both a football airing on a TV, video games being played and several small children making a lot of noise (as small children are wont to do).

Nile and the materials presented were excellent. The location was a bit noisy.

I just received a call on the callbox. My apologies but the meeting doesn't start for half an hour. I'm on the bus anf expect to be there at 3:05 (ten minutes before it starts).

I'm interested in this topic but it might be over my head. I made it as far as Pre-Calc in high school, which was long ago, so I'm rusty. Are there any pre-reqs I should be aware of?

If you made it to pre-calculus, then I'm really hoping that this talk will work for you. The primary pre-requisite is knowing how to do Algebra.

I almost missed that the meeting time had been changed to 3:15. Just curious, but whatever ever happened to 2:30?

I have a class over in the U district from 12:00 to 2:15 PM. It takes me about an hour to get back to my place to let people in. We can move back to an earlier time when Cafe Allegro is finished with their renovations.

I love mathematics though I've not studied it since college.
