Hike Level:   Moderate, Single Track, Wide Paths, Some Hills, Stream Crossings

Hike Start Time:   10:00 AM

Hike  Distance:   3.6 Miles

Hike Duration:   About 1 1/2 hours

Water on Trail For Dogs:   YES

The Hike:  This is a nice hike. We will start out on Birch Mountain Road in Glastonbury at the "Iron Gate" as I call it, that leads into the pipeline. We will cross over the pipeline and follow a relatively flat path to a stream with an easy crossing just before we enter the blue and white trail.

From there we will follow the blue and white trail as it winds through the woods. Then make a left turn at the "Rock Pile" onto the Blue trail "Shenipsit trail" and make a short climb up hill until we reach Pine Ledge. This is a camp fire spot surrounded by pine trees with a nice view of Hartford. Here we can take a rest and enjoy the view.

Then we will follow the Blue trail back down cross over the trail we started on and make a long loop up to the power lines and make our way back to the Blue and White trail which will take us back to Birch Mountain Road.

Directions To Manchester:

From the south take 91N to 84E to 384E
From the north take either 91S to 84E to 384E or take 291S to 84W/384E

From the west take 84E to 384E
From the east take 84W to 384E

   Take Exit 4, "Highland Street"
Stop sign at end of ramp. Take left and the a right at traffics light on to highland street.. Highland park market will be across the street.

Follow highland street and take first right after you go under the bridge on to Birch Mountain Road.

Follow Birch Mountain Road, at stop sign, bear right onto Villa Louisa Road/Birch Mountain Road towards Glastonbury. Once you cross over the Glastonbury town line look for Tamarac Dr. on your left. Go past Tamarack Dr. and on your right look for large boulders and an Iron Gate that leads into the pipeline. Find a place to park on the side of the road. There is a fairly wide shoulder on this part of Birch Mountain Road.

From Glastonbury    Hebron Ave. Route 94
Follow Birch Mountain Road past the power lines and old apple orchard where the new houses have been build. The road will go down hill slightly, at this point look for the Pipeline and Iron Gate on your left.

You will see my car (Black Ford Escape) parked on the side of the road so everyone should be able to find it OK.

Friendly people, well-behaved dogs. Trail was interesting, moderately challenging, and wide enough in most places for two people to walk together.

Alicia, you will see a metal gate across the entrance to the path we will be taking. Parking is just on the side of the road but there is plenty of room. What direction will you be coming from, manchester or glastonbury?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
