Announcing a new Meetup for MDOG Hikes!!

What: Heublein Tower (Re-scheduled)

When: Saturday, November 27,[masked]:30 AM

Where: Heublein Tower
Simsbury, CT 06070

Hi Everyone!

I am happy to be leading another hike with you! Unfortunately, our November 20th hike was canceled, and my apologies to anyone that is traveling for the holidays and can no longer participate, but I really wanted to keep our momentum going and still have a hike offered for November. Lets hike off all that Thanksgiving goodness!

Trail: We will still be doing the Heublein Tower trail, which is located in Simsbury and Bloomfield. There is ample parking located up the hill from the park entrance near the trail head. We will be following the yellow trail to the tower and then come back down. A map of the trail can be found at the following link:

Hike Details: The Tower trail is approximately 1.25 miles long, and will take us about 30-40 minutes up, a little shorter on the way down. There is a picnic area near the tower, so we can rest there before making our decent. The trail is approximately 6 feet wide at most parts, so it is easy to discern and follow. There are several vistas on the way up, and the view from the top is wonderful! If you ever get the chance to come back, you should definitely make it a point to climb the tower and see what landmarks you can recognize!

Difficulty: The trail is a fairly steep grade for the majority of the way up. It will be at least a moderate hike. We can take several breaks on the way up for those who would really like to join but are not seasoned hikers.

What You Need: Please bring water, at least 32 oz for yourself and some for the dog. Wearing good hiking boots is strongly suggested due to the slope of the hike and possible leaf cover. Dress in layers - its November, so make sure to bring a hat and gloves, a face covering, and a windbreaker if possible.

LEASH LAWS: As this is a state park, we are required to tell you that your dog must be leashed at all times while in the park, so if you do let your dog free roam, this is at your own risk. This time of year, not many people are on the trail, so it will be a little easier, but I will stop us before we get to a certain point due to the sheer cliffs off the side of the trail and remind you to leash your dogs until we pass these areas.

Weather Policy: I will send out an email on Friday, November 27th to remind everyone. If it looks like inclement weather or that the ground is (knock on wood) covered in snow, we will reschedule the hike.

Safety: Safety is our number one concern, and this time of year, the conditions can be difficult to predict. If you are having difficulty at all during the hike, please let me know and we will have someone assist you, or help you and your dog back to your car. MDOG is in the process of providing a first aid kit and whistles for the hike, so we can keep the 'pack' together at all times. If you have any concerns whatsoever, please feel free to email me.

Directions: See the State of CT's website:
Thanks! I look forward to seeing you and your canine friends!
