Spring Lake Farms is offering:

1) Beef or Beef/Chicken special request box

If you choose this - you get to custom create your grab box. Please let me know in your RSVP what cuts you want.  You can request cuts of steak, special roasts, chickens, etc.  Make as many or as few requests as you want.  If your requests are less than $150, than Temma will fill up your box with cuts and ground beef to get you up to your total.  This is a great opportunity to get a sweet brisket or some porterhouse for some winter grilling!!  If you make a request that the farmers can't fulfill exactly, they will make their best substitution.

2) ALL GRASS FED BEEF  OR Chicken/Beef SAMPLER GRAB BOX

Spring Lake Farms is offering an all beef sampler pack.  This pack will consist of 25+ pounds of various beef cuts from various cows and steers and maybe some bull.  These animals were butchered at various times throughout the year and the date is labelled on each cut.  This will give you the opportunity to taste the difference between the fine spring and summer grass vs. the harsher fall grass vs. hay.  Your cuts will be a blend of ground, stew, roasts and steaks.  Organs and bones will not be a part of your 25 pounds of meat.  Some may be included in addition to your 25 pounds. I do not know exactly how many of each cut , but I can assure you that Spring Lake Farms is always extremely generous in their sampler packs.  They aim to please their discerning meat eating customers.  If you do want chickens, please request when you RSVP.

This is Temma's description of the boxes, "
The all beef boxes will be similar to the boxes last time
about 17 lbs of ground beef from several different beef,(for a variety of taste each one marked)
and about 10 lbs of mixed beef cuts ,whatever we have steaks, roasts, shanks ,etc."

THE FARMER'S WILL NOT BE PROVIDING AN INVENTORY OF EACH BOX IN ADVANCE.  THEY HAVE AN INVENTORY OF EACH BOX POSTED TO EACH BOX ON DELIVERY DAY. WE HAVE A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE POLICY FOR GRAB BOXES - PEOPLE GET TO PICK THEIR BOXES IN THE ORDER IN WHICH THEY GET HERE.  IF 2 OR 3 PEOPLE ARRIVE AT THE SAME TIME, THEY GET TO PICK AT THE SAME TIME.

The total cost for your all beef grab box will be $159.94. The box is $150 plus a $5 meetup fee plus a $4.94 paypal fee.  If you would like your meat delivered, the farmer's will do so for an additional $16.  If you would like your meat delivered, please add this $16 on to your total (which will now be $175.94) and follow the instructions below.

IF YOU ARE GETTING DELIVERY YOU MUST DO 3 THINGS:

1) PAYPAL $16 IN ADVANCE FOR DELIVERY - WHEN YOU RSVP.  Add this to your total when you check out.  For this grab box, your new total will be $175.94

2) PROVIDE YOUR NAME, ADDRESS, AND PHONE # WHEN YOU RSVP.  PLUS ANY AMPLIFYING INSTRUCTIONS (I.E. -  "my bell doesn't work, call me when you arrive).

3)  BE AT YOUR ADDRESS WITH YOUR PHONE WORKING FROM 4-6PM ON DELIVERY DAY, January 5th.

Spring Lake has 2 great websites www.springlakeny.com and healthymeat.org. Ulla Kjarval, the farmer's daughter also writes a farming & food blog with several recipes to complement the meat her parent's raise. Our beef has been completely grass-fed. Ingi Kjarval, our farmer, has been cross-breeding his cattle to help build a smaller, sturdier steer that does well in upstate NY on grass. Our cows are part Simmental, Hereford, Angus & Highland.

My grab box was amazing! So much meat, a great selection of steaks, ground beef, stew meat, and roasts. Plus they threw in some bones. I chose the grab box because I didn't really trust myself to choose the right things for a custom box and I am so glad I did! This was my first order but it definitely won't be my last. Thank you so much!

I was thinking about going to pick up a quarter steer in the near future. If anybody would like to go in on a half steer with me that would cost around $3 a pound (I think). I have a car and can go pick it up. If they want to deliver a quarter steer on Saturday can I have a quote?

    • Jeanne D.

Dominic - it's probably best to talk to the farmer's directly for that. You can email Temma at [masked]. They have a lot of beef this year. Typically, it comes to around $6- 7/lb for your finished weight - including butchering. I'm assuming the $3/lb is for hanging weight.

I've never had grassfed meat... do they deliver to Bronx? I think I can afford to try this.

    January 2, 2013

    • Penny D.

Jeanne, I placed my order for 3 chickens and paid the $16 for delivery to the Bronx. I can't wait.

Oh sorry... I'm getting confused. I ordered for the other offer of small chickens. I don't have freezer space for this large meat order--wish I did tho

  • Jen

Hi, I changed my order to include 1 chicken

    January 3, 2013

  • Kim C.

Please adjust my chicken count from 2 to 4, thanks for the extra info. Also, making sure I am on the delivery list as well, email confirmed, could you as well? Thanks!

    January 3, 2013

    • Jeanne D.

You are confirmed for delivery Kim. Updated your chicken order.

Also, as a heads up, the chickens are small. If you look at the chicken meetup - there is a description of them. They are in the[masked] lb range. I've been eating some from last time and they are delicious. Great leg/thigh meat - very skimpy breast meat. Very tender and tasty.

As an FYI, if you change your RSVP answers later, please email me to let me know. Meetup.com doesn't cue me when people change their requests. Therefore, if I don't check it manually, I won't be able to honor your request. Thanks for accommodating.

Here is the updated list of those that are confirmed for delivery:
Sherry, Jillian, Andy, Sally, Caitlin Rogan, Daniel, Geoff, and Kaitlin McGreyes. Thank you for paying in advance and providing all requested information :)

    delivery in Manhattan?

  • Kaitlin M.

I just paid for a grab box and delivery... but I think I shorted you a dollar. I paid you another dollar. I hope we are even now... sorry about that!

  • Kaitlin M.

    Thanks!!

  • Kaitlin M.

Is there a price list of the cuts for the custom box available? Thanks for organizing this.

    January 2, 2013

    • Jeanne D.

Yes. The price list is on their website: http://springlakefarm...

      January 3, 2013

    • Jeanne D.

Also, I posted the price list in the meet-up info section for your convenience. Please note - the farmer's may not be able to honor all requests. They will do their best to make a good substitution. It is all based on their inventory. That being said, they have a lot of beef in stock right now - so it's a good time to custom order.

  • Jeanne D.

Thus far, those that are confirmed for delivery are Sherry, Jillian, Andy, and Sally. Thank you for providing all your delivery information up front and for paying in advance. Providing all of this pertinent information when you RSVP minimized the hiccups on delivery day. Thank you so much, rock stars!!!

My pleasure to be able to help, Jeanne! I really appreciate being able to buy the meat from Spring Lake. Makes a huge difference to me & my family. Thank you so much for organizing!

Thanks for hosting as always, Jeanne!

  • Sally G.

    Jeanne,
I paid for delivery of the meat box - but the instructions in Item 3 above state that delivery will be on December 1st 4-6pm - must be a mistake. What day/time will delivery actually take place?
    Thanks
    Sally

    January 2, 2013

    • Jeanne D.

Yes Sally. Delivery will be 4-6 pm on Jan 5th. If you are picking up at my place - pickup is 3pm.

      January 2, 2013

  • Jeanne D.

Also, as an FYI -- they farmer's may not have the specific cut you ask for, but they will make a best substitution. For example: if they do not have porterhouse, they would substitute another high end steak.

    1 · January 2, 2013

  • Jeanne D.

I apologize. Delivery will be Jan. 5th from 4-6pm.
