Location: Macao Trading Company
From the team behind Employees Only, this Tribeca gem is one of Manhattan’s more dazzling settings. Dine in an exotic foreign correspondents’ club circa 1930s Macao, beneath langorously rotating ceiling fans and a caged catwalk overflowing with evocative East-meets-West port-of-call curios. One step through the door and you are transported to a smugglers' speakeasy in old Macao's "red lantern district". An inspired Chinese meets Portuguese menu offers great variety, and the cocktail menu rolls with the culinary theme, infusing the deceptively strong drinks with Asian delights.

I couldn't be happier with our first Cabaret. The crowd was intelligent and exciting and the atmosphere was excellent. These events are only going to get better.

WAHoooo (and you can quote me on that!). Our inaugural mediaIDEAS CABARET was a HIT! We got a strong turnout of 135 for a rainy day, and thus far feedback has been strongly positive -- people seemed to very much enjoy the festive aspects of the venue, the music, the booze, the crowd, the networking, AS WELL AS found the speakers interesting. Some people want more info, and we'll be providing presentation info for download. YOUR FEEDBACK, especially detailed wishes, IS DIRECTLY INFORMING OUR PLANNING for the NEXT CABARET in mid-SEPTEMBER. Please upload your photos and videos. SHARE YOUR IDEAS FOR SPEAKERS (include yourself!), TOPICS, SPONSORS, THEMES and any other wishes and improvements.

Great event. Lots of interesting presentations.

Next time cd you possibly give members name badges or name stickers when they come in? I studied all the profiles & came up with 14 people i wanted to talk to & then socialize more generally, but without name tags amid the low lights & loudish music i felt out of it & left early. I wanted to make more of a contribution, but maybe next time... if you're at all interested in becoming a SIG of the NYPC or NYACC computer user groups let me know & i can tell you who to get in touch with, could lead to a cheaper & better-lit venu. Thanks for all the work, & all the best! alex gross

It was a lot of fun and informative, but I would reduce the number of speakers, and increase the amount of food.
  • Greg Miller
format was just right. At first I thought it could be tough to hear people but then they were more attentive as the presentation progressed.
  • Mark W. White
It was an interesting experiment. I'm assuming at some point the presentations will be made available to attendees; otherwise, I would rate this as a #2 because it wasn't really an environment for note taking. The presentations need to be more interactive and hands-on -- e.g. let me see the product on an Ipad rather than in a PowerPoint. The music was a negative, making it difficult to schmooze because of the noise.
  • Jay Franco
Pretty good. A little hard to hear all presenters. But they did a good job. Met a few interesting people. Liked Macao..
  • Raluca
Fabulous gathering! Interesting topics and speakers, animated atmosphere, outstanding announcer. One observation: the talented musicians "out-sounded" everybody else.
  • Marianne
This is was GREAT event. Two thoughts for future ones though: a venue with a stage for presenters is probably better and ditch the band. Don't get me wrong, they were great performers but at networking events people want to mingle and chat and it's stressful to have to talk OVER music and then talk over all the people talking over music.
  • Yen Cheong
Would have been good if the companies presenting had also left flyers (or, even better, bar codes or tags) by the door since it was a little loud and crowded.
  • Jonathan Bertfield
Good; focused group of attendees. Bad: Interspersing networking between presentations made it very noisy and a lot of the value from some interesting speakers was lost.

    great event!
  • Devu Gandhi
Interesting format; I hope people continue to attend. The background Cabaret music was loud and made people talk loud, which may have been the point.

Great event, informative speakers, good networking and conversation.
  • Doug
Impressive and relevant crowd. Venue was very comfortable and accommodating. Event MC did great job of keeping things moving. Most presentations were strong without being product/company pitches.
  • rich santos
Music was too loud, could't talk to people, had to yell...not conducive to carrying on a conversation

great nite- though there were too many speakers given the environment- and the drinks were too much $$$$$$

    good content

Fun location. Drinks were too expensive. Food was good, but I left starving. Speakers were good, but were hard to hear. Too many sponsors, and if I had been one of them, I would have been disappointed by the noisy crowd. Fewer sponsors would be better. Needs a little work.
