Maine Buddhist Gathering Potluck

The Maine Buddhist Gathering's Spring Community Potluck and Sitting Meditation Evening is scheduled for Sunday, May 5th at 5pm at the Allen Avenue Unitarian Church in Portland. May marks a point of transition as we move out of our winter cocoons into the bright light of summer.  May is also the time of year when people around the world hold festivals for Buddha's birthday. What an ideal time to celebrate the power of community. The Community Potluck is an opportunity for us, sanghas and individual practitioners, to experience a larger sense of community by sitting and eating together.  All are welcome.

I was wondering if we meditate first or if the potluck is first. I would really like to come and meet everyone and be part of this group, but I have my 2 year old daughter on my own this weekend. I would assume she would be quite disruptive to the meditation, but I would love for us to be able to attend the potluck. Might that be possible? Otherwise, I will need to wait until next often do you do the potlucks?

We'll doing sitting, walking and silent eating mediation first. We'll be done with meditation by 6. MBG community potlucks happen 1-2 times a year, and the meetup does occasional potlucks as well.

    Hello Buddhist meditators!

I hope to join you at this great event, but wanted to let you know that May has been named National Meditation Month. I don't think there are Hallmark cards for this yet, but it may have been to coincide with Buddha's day of awakening. I thought it was pretty cool when I spotted this designation in my day planner.

Hey I just joined wondering where you meet in Portland, what days and time and am curious about comments about joining a group involed in the neuroscience of meditation, have read a lot about it and am interested in joining a group that's talking about it. You folks look like a fun group, love the laughter part, I haven't been laughing nearly enough....miss it. Looking forward to meeting you all, its great Thanks Robin Do I get news about and from you through this meetup web cite or do you have your own?

Still in the planning stages, stay tuned! MBG is organized by members of several area sanghas. I believe Nagaloka is one of them.

How does the evening break out? e.g., how long do we meditate?
And - unrelated question: what, if any, is your connection with
    the Forest Ave. Buddhist Center?
