“Developing a consistent meditation practice” 6-week workshop series

  • Sep 9, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • Kerry's house

Having trouble getting your tush on the cush? You are not alone!  Let's get together and talk about ways to develop a more consistent meditation practice.  Whether you are just starting out or have years of meditation experience, come learn and share about what makes consistent practice possible.  Each week we'll explore another challenge and/or strategy in order to develop some new tools and collectively support each other's practice. Topics will include: setting the habit, overcoming distractions/excuses, recognizing benefits, cultivating self compassion, developing a meditator identity, and relying on sangha.  Dharma talks, short articles and homework will help us explore each topic. Teachings used will be Buddhist or Buddhist inspired, though not solely affiliated with a particular lineage or teacher. The workshop will be facilitated by Tom Cannon and Kerry Dunn. Tom is this meetup's original organizer and a licensed professional counselor focusing on mindfulness practices, and Kerry is a professor at UNE's School of Social Work. We designed the workshop as a means to deepen our own meditation practice and help others do the same.    We will serve as guides and co-workers not formal teachers. This meditation practice workshop is donation-based, and any donations will be used to create a new sangha space at Kerry's for ongoing group sits and retreats.

I tried to make the meeting, but I got stuck in traffic. I will make the meeting next week....Sorry, if anyone was inconvenienced. I am really looking forward to this meditation meeting! I now know how to get to, and how long it takes to Devon Street.

I also just discovered that there was room tonight, yet didn't make it back in time. Hope to see you next week.

Hi, Since I just found out I could come tonight (was on waiting list), my schedule doesn't work...not out of work until 6 tonight. However, I will plan to finish work at 5 in the future so that I can make this.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tonight. Devon St. is off of Brighton Ave near Capisic, and my house is the last on the street. I'm in the process of repainting the outside, so it's currently 2-tone. Lots of street parking.

The waitlist- oh, the price I pay for procrastination. Clearly I'm someone who could benefit from a workshop about disciplined habits.
I'm still very interested and available and hoping to hear if there's any movement on the list.
