A reminder that we have our weekly mindfulness meetup tonight from 6-8pm at the First Parish Church on Congress Street by city hall. We'll be doing two 30 minute meditations, with some discussion in between and intention setting at the end. Mindfulness is more than just sitting meditation, it is a way of seeing and being in the world. Meditation is a tool we can use to help slow the mind, and create intention to be more clear and aware of our conditioned thinking.
We'd love to see you--it's not necessary to RSVP, just stop by. Try to be there by 6pm as they keep the door locked, but if you're late just ring the doorbell and we'll come get you. Use the front door on the right side of the church, that's where our meeting space is.
This group focuses on our practice of increasing awareness and being present in our lives through mindfulness meditation. When we practice observing the mind, we notice it is continually making commentary, and we cultivate the ability to carefully observe those thoughts, seeing them for what they are without aversion or judgement. We learn to be more present by realizing that thoughts are just thoughts, allowing us to let go of unhelpful, conditioned thinking. We will meet to discuss the benefits, challenges and opportunities of a mindfulness practice as a path to improved quality of life, and support each other as we explore this practice individually and collectively. Guided and/or group meditation may be included in gatherings. And we can discover additional ways to practice mindfulness beyond meditation, like when waiting in lines, at traffic lights, or while walking. All levels of experience are welcome. Please bring your sense of humor (nothing should be taken too seriously).
