Here's a new Meetup for Portland Mindfulness Meetup Group! We still have a few more slots open for the weekend, but for those who would like to come by for the day, we are offering this afternoon meditation session.

What: THE WISDOM OF ACCEPTANCE: BEING OPEN & PRESENT TO WHAT IS

When: Saturday, May 8,[masked]:00 PM

Price: $20.00 per person

Where:
Eyrie Cottage, Morse Mountain
Morse Mountain Road
Phippsburg, ME
[masked]

We are offering a three-hour workshop during our mindful weekend retreat for those who want to drop by for the afternoon. The course will be offered by Lisa Blake, M.A., and we invite you to come by earlier and enjoy the beautiful walk to the beach or the use of the house. I do warn you, however, that if the weather is nice, the parking lot fills up fast, so carpooling and/or early arrival is encouraged. I would plan on a moderate hike of approximately 30 minutes up to the house.

This meditation workshop will encourage participants to engage in present moment
awareness through mindfulness practice both in seated posture as well as moving
meditations. By being present to our own experience we are able to grow compassion and patience
for meeting others and situations as they are without needing anyone or anything to
change. Our preconceived idea about how we should be or how others should be
causes us (and them) a great deal of difficulty.

This concept of should creates and contributes to patterns of suffering and
dissatisfaction because it leads us away from acceptance and presence with people,
circumstances, environments and things as they are. Much of this pattern is infused
with judgment, whether we recognize it or not, and judgment leads us even further from
the goal of non-judgmental compassion and acceptance. Of course, this often makes
difficult circumstances even harder!

My mother had a plaque with an expression on it that captures this nicely, ?Blessed are
they without expectations, for they shall not be disappointed.? I used to resent this idea,
until I came to appreciate the true wisdom inherent in it: that while it is good to have
goals and plans, life will serve up what it has in store for us along the path which may
not be part of our plan. When we open to our own experience and life as it is unfolding
without should and without judgment, we become greatly liberated by the wisdom of
acceptance.

The workshop will further develop this topic and meditation practices will allow
participants to explore and discover new ways to experience being open and present to
what is, internally and externally.
