All Are Welcome
Come and join us in meditation, whether you are new to meditation or have been practicing for years. The Shaker Heights group meets every Thursday from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM. The setting of the Baker Room where we meet is serene and peaceful and generally conducive to quieting the mind. We have just started reading a new book for our discussion period, "After the Ecstasy, the Laundry" by Jack Kornfield. We start with Chapter 1 on 29th and will read one chapter each week.
You do not need to have read the chapter to join the discussion or benefit from it.
The format for our meetings is as follows:
~ 15 minutes of sitting meditation
~ 30 minutes for discussion
~ 45 minutes of sitting meditation
If you would like instruction.....
It can seem daunting to sit for 15 or more minutes in meditation if you are new to this practice. What am I supposed to be doing? Am I doing it right? If you would like some instructions on concentration and insight practice prior to sitting in meditation, please contact John and we can meet with you for a few minutes before our scheduled sit.
Our discussion time is used for questions about meditation practice, for checking in with each other on how our meditation practice is going, or for discussion of a book that we may be reading (see below for what we are currently doing).
There is no need to contact us prior to joining us, but you are most welcome to contact us if you have questions. There is never any cost for the meditation. Each meditation session is complete on its own, so you can join us on any evening that works for you.
