I thought the music was beautiful. Highlight for me was the Chinese cellist. Winterreise was great, but I was a bit out of it by then to really enjoy it. It was hard to breathe and I just wanted to get out of there. I hope they find a more comfortable venue for next year's one.

I agree with Ernie about the venue and the over-tight schedule of programs. Half an hour between sessions would have been better and less tiring, but then they wouldn't have fitted so much in. I liked both the String Quintet "trout" and the "Winterreise." I also like the lieder Merlyn Quaife sang, especially when she was accompanied by the clarinet. The piano accompaniment drowned out the bass in the lieder from Faust. But overall it was an exciting day. Sorry, Lisa couldn't make it. I saw Ernie and Anna. Did we miss the others who were there?

So what did everyone who went think? I found it a fairly exhausting day, exacerbated maybe by the fairly stuffy conditions in the venue. We were quite spoiled with having it at BMW Edge last year, where you could see the stage from anywhere in the auditorium. Not at the Town Hall. I also thought the sound from further back was much more balanced from the rear of the hall, compared to the all-day seats on the left, which is where I mostly sat.

The highlights for me (and there are quite a lot of them!): Kathryn Selby's "Wanderer" Fantasy, the E-flat piano trio, Wintereisse (though I was fading quite badly at this stage!), the "Trout" quintet, and at the top of the list, the string quintet (though maybe I'm biased!). Plenty of others that I really enjoyed, and a few that I thought could have been left out to give us a bit more time between sessions to breathe!

Saw Anna and Joachim, though as I mentioned there was not much time to chat in between.

Hi all, I'm going to come at 3.00 for Session 4 and stay for Sessions 5 and 6. Could we meet before 3.00 or between Sessions 4 and 5? Ernie, Anna, Peter, Lisa and Bern I'll look out for you. I have Anna's phone number. Here is mine. [masked] 314. Can anyone suggest a meeting place?

No worries, though you missed a good string quartet! Will look out for you

Sorry won't be able to make the 9 am session. Will be there for the one following. 40 minutes between trains in the morning and 1 hr 10 mins to the next bus.

Looking forward to seeing you all there! Should be a great series of concerts

Sounds good Anna. I may struggle to make it too much earlier than 9am since I have a fair way to travel. We could just arrange to meet on the landing just outside the front entrance? Unless someone else has a better spot - my recollection of ANAM is a little hazy.

    March 25, 2014

    • Anna

I don't go up that way much myself. There's a front main entrance and a side entrance. For ANAM performances, you usually go in via the side entrance. My number is[masked]

I've got a day pass as well. Not sure about the 9 am session, but will try to get there early to nab a good seat. I was wondering if we can arrange for a meetup point during the intervals? In the event that I do actually get myself out of bed early and make it to the 9am session do we have a pre-show meeting point so we can sit together?

I got a day pass, so I will be there all day - starting at 9AM, with a break for lunch sometime (probably in the piano sonatas) - Peter Z.

This looks great. I am coming back from overseas that day but I will come join you guys. Probably I will come to the 0500 p.m. session. B

I'll only be able to make one session as have another event that day, not sure which one yet.

I managed to get day pass. Now the only problem is choosing sessions, with so many good performers on offer.

    March 5, 2014

    • Ernie L

Yep, tough choices to be made. While I'm hoping to attend all sessions, the ones I really want to see are 2, 3, 4, 6, 7.

Yep, I've booked my ticket as well! It appears that single-session tickets don't go on sale until early February. If it's similar to the way they did the Beethoven marathon, they'll have an area reserved for daypass people and another for single-session ticket holders. And premium ticket holders get a reserved seat position.

Yes - I'm going to "Schubert Day". I've already booked - it might be close to full now, so hurry if you want to go! Lots of old favourites (such as "The Trout", Impromptus & Piano Trios) being played, plus some "newies".
