The Seven Ups at the Spotted Mallard (Free)

Those of us who witnessed the Seven Up's at the Spotted Mallard a few weeks ago will attest to what a fabulous show they put on. They had the dancefloor jumping, and now they are back for a Sunday afternoon residency at Melbourne's coolest live music venue.

Described as: Deep Funk and BAD Afro! Blending influences from 1970s Nigerian Afrobeat with the deepest of street Funk, The Seven Ups are the original 8-piece party band. Expect unrestrained solos by unkempt horns over an unpretentious rhythm section whose only interest is laying it down!

The band are playing 2 sets from 4.30pm and will probably finish around 6.30. I am organising another meetup at the venue from 2-4pm, and some of those may stay on for the band as well. The kitchen also serves up good food if you are feeling peckish. Keep an eye on the comments section closer to the date for any further details.

A relaxed Sunday afternoon at the Spotted Mallard is a fabulous way to wind down the weekend, so come along, chill out, and perhaps even cut a rug on the dancefloor if you feel so inclined!  See you all there :-)

Hi folks a few of us were talking about this night I'm going to, which was sold out on Sunday. However: they have just announced more tix to be released on Monday morning at 10am. Good luck!

Greetings All, hope everyone is enjoying our last gasp of summer! Looks like we're going to have a really good crowd this Sunday so should be a lot of fun. For those who haven't been there it is on Sydney Rd near the corner of Glenlyon Rd. If catching public transport either take the 19 tram, or the Upfield train and get off at Brunswick. I have reserved the high tables next to the pool table in front of the bar so we should be easy enough to find. If you're having trouble contact me on[masked] 424. The owners told me that the Seven Ups have been amazing so really looking forward to seeing them again. Catch you all on Sunday!

Nuala, I am beginning to question your Irishness! You were missed on the dancefloor. Nevermind, hope to catch you next time!

Had a lovely afternoon/evening. The Seven Up's were a lot of fun, then we had the unexpected bonus band 'The Bearded Gypsy Band' who were excellent. Unfortunately most had left by then, but if they come back they are well worth seeing. Thanks to everyone for coming along and making it so enjoyable. Cheers.

I have been there the last two Sundays and it has been very good. Though if you want to dance you might have to go round the youngsters. I also recommend the poutines and the Teusner shiraz :)

Hey Megan. Yes it is. I have arranged with them to get together until 4pm, then I will join the music meetup group from 4 onwards. If anyone gets there before 4 they are welcome to join us.
