Songwriters receive royalties from the use of their music. It takes them lots of effort and thoughts and special talent to create a song. Users of songs are other performers, but mainly the listeners. These are supposed to buy a product to use. The problem here is that a record / CD is a tangible material and to own it, the user has to actually go to the store and purchase it. However the information stored on the CD is an intangible material which is paid for when going to the store. But over the internet, the tangible product is not an issue. However the intangible product can be accessed without having to buy the tangible product. But copyright exists on both the tangible and intangible. Many believe it is ok to download for free because you are not buying the actual CD. Others believe it is not right at all as it is stealing. Others believe it is ok as long as it is cheaper. Others just don't care at all. What do you think? Your opinion is valuable. |
