Ron's tandem chains didn't pick up any sand because they were shiny clean and dry. But we did get a bit of grinding in the back brake on the way back. And we did not actually go to Brimbank Park, just almost got there.

Wow! What a challenging and fun ride especially on a very light bike. Next time I will bring weights to keep my bike firmly anchored to the ground. I am still trying to get the sand off my bike chain:) Well done to the tandem riders enduring such a tough ride. Thanks Peter for organising and Brian for leading the single bikes.

Hey Diane, you should have tied that anchor on the Williamstown foreshore to your bike. It was certainly a challenging ride and one to remember. I just cleaned and oiled the chains on the tandem before that ride which I will now have to do again. That's cycling. Anyhow Diane, you did a splendid job given the weather conditions. Thank for coming along and hope to see you on a future ride very soon.

Thanks Peter. What am I complaining about...you have double the work to clean the chains on the tandem - happy cleaning:))

Thanks Jay for your help. As well as the wind & the heat I found that the front brake was jammed.

As always each bike ride has had its uniqueness' and this one was no exception, just loved the wind and sand, felt like a good British summers day at the beach.

Congratulation to Brian Smith and the members of Melbourne Cycling for reaching the 500th Meetup Ride today. This was a fabulous achievement and the way we are heading with More Cycling More Often, it won’t be long before we will be celebrating our 600th Melbourne Cycling event.

What a way to celebrate this milestone on our ride today with some unbelievably extreme weather conditions. Yes we just about had the full bag with winds gusting up around 55 kph (Felt like 100 kph) trying to blow us back to where we had just come from and we copped the full force of these winds as we entered Altona and we were sand blasted from head to foot. Coming back was a different storey as we were almost blown back to the city where we finished the ride with a cool drink at the Time Out Café in Fed Square. A huuge thank you to everyone for joining us on the 500th ride and for putting up with the terrible weather conditions at Altona Beach.

What an interesting ride this has been !! Certainly felt a lot longer than 50km, not to mention tougher. It was a good challenge and the wind was certainly having fun toying with us. That exfoliating ride towards Altona was certainly a wee bit painful. Awesome ride as usual and was glad to be apart of ride no 500 !!

One of the hottest and windiest rides I have been on in this group, it was a killer getting there but we made it and had a far more pleasant ride back to Melbourne, thanks to all and Peter for the day sorry I could not stay longer afterwards.

Too windy and extremely hot on the way to Altona; and along the Altona beach front, I though my bike would lose all its paintwork! But coming back was good, with the wind at our back. And the reward of a [expensive] cool drink at the end.
So, nice to see you all: I think that we are EXTREME CHAMPIONS!

Hi, I'm coming from Newport, is your route past Costco then via the Footscray road bike path? If so I might meet up with you around somewhere around Costco/Footscray road. Not on a tandem, but definitely won't miss you guys if your riding tandems. thanks
