Hey Lorraine! Welcome to Girl Develop It Detroit. :) We'll be posting details on our first class shortly.
We're also curious about how GDI can best serve our Detroit community. We've put together a quick survey for our members and would love your input: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HRD2KJ7
Looking forward to meeting you at our launch event next Tuesday! You can also email me at michelle[at]girldevelopit.com if you have any questions.
I posted a few links about HTML 5 Asteroid game tutorials/source code on Maurice's wall. Hopefully this can be a starting point for you guys to figure out collision detection and basic movement for now. Check out his wall if you're interested.
The pleasure is all mine :) I enjoyed seeing someone so passionate in game development, not to mention interested in all aspects! We're in the same boat there!
A follow up -- if you want to get your own copy of Unity to mess around with (there's a free version!), visit http://unity3d.com/unity/download/
You can also visit http://unity3d.com/support/documentat... to learn the basics.
If you're hungry for more, let me know and I can show you more great resources!
Hi Lorraine, do you have an idea of the target users for the asteroids game? We need to determine what delivery channels our potential audience uses to decide the game format.
Dang! I feared the next meeting would be during Feb break. Can't make it! I'll be out of town with the family. 8-( One of these days...
I'm not sure about "expertise", but I can certainly tell people what *not* to do. Our 1st app was released a little over a year now (2nd app in November) and it is definitely the Wild West out there. Very exciting industry but also extremely easy to make expensive mistakes. It's amazing how you can become a veteran of something in such a short time. I'm happy to share our experiences ;)
Thanks, Lorraine. Really enjoyed study hall. Composer was a great show. Very excited to be in on the beta for this, working on an app I hope does it justice. Yes, please keep me in the loop for future meetups. Look forward to chatting more next time.
I enjoyed it, too! I've got the beta version of Composer and getting ready to move forward some way or other... looking forward to seeing you again in May but also trying to recall when you said you'd be back in town.
