Well you could just e me. Reason is everything when tempered with what is good for the collective group, and empathy is paramount, as in; we would have to decrease the population of the Earth by attrition from 6 or 7 billion to 3 billion as no one is qualified in any way to do it in any other manner. The only drawback i can see in it is that the individual doing the reasoning has to always be open to change because they will spend the life doing it until we create a rational society.
Hi Susan, definitely bring your daughter along! Don't let the official RSVP parameters saying you can only bring +1 fool you. I keep it that way so there's more room for people who've been attending since we began--like you! Looking forward to seeing you in August. :) Karla
Hi Susan! Thanks for the kind note. I hope that didn't come off wrong, I wasn't fishing for sympathies, only attempting to illuminate how challenging competing interests are. Sadly, I'm just returning form my friend's mother's funeral and I have to teach tonigh (in a few hours), so I must be brief but thank you again for your sweet note. I look forward to seeing you again at another workshop!"
Thanks Susan! Typos make the world a way more humorous place :D
Somewhat! I think that Egypt's society runs a little differently from ours. I'm sure that whatever new order emerges from the present crisis will not look exactly like a western democracy. If you look at how Turkey works, I think that a republic like that could work for Egypt. Like Turkey, the military and religious parties will have a lot more power than a Westerner would be comfortable with, but whatever they end up doing will be an improvement. I hope they write a new constitution.
I'll see you all at 17:00 tomorrow.
Hi Susan! Welcome to the group, it's great having you on board! :)
Susan,
Please make sure Earl, your guest, reads and understands the Group's ACCIDENT WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY form.
Thanks.
Susan,
I planned on the shuttle because I was warned by a local that many people struggle on the way back to Trout Creek Park after eating too much at the Outback Crab Shack but you can always paddle back on your own. Hopefully you can find another person to join you to be safe.
The writer of that book may have been more accurate to capitalize the T in truth. He is probably saying that Hume questioned absolute, undeniable Truths. But I doubt thinks Hume says I can't "know" whether the sun is out. There is no such strict dichotomy as Spinoza's knowing and Hume's not knowing. If you clarify the question to show the subtlety of their arguments, you will probably have a more productive discussion. And we should address Hume after Descartes, Locke, Leibniz, etc
