  I used to play primarily with the Portland Chess Club, mostly in the 1970s (pretty much the whole decade). We did have matches in the state league, so I got to Waterville, Bangor, etc. I also played with the Lewiston club when I attended Bates from 1974-78. I think that some of the players I knew are still around and active; a few have passed on or moved away, of course.
  I usually amke it back home but didn't this last year. It's been ages since I went to the chess club, though. ”
