I look forward to drumming with you. Are you planning on coming to the class this Tuesday? It is in Topanga Canyon on the corner of Valley Dr., Sycamore Dr. and Oak Dr. The building has a cross on top but it is not a church. Park in front or wherever you can. Will you need a drum?
Hi Kevin. I run meetup.com/westside_gamenight. If this chess group shuts down, you're more than welcome to join us. There are a few that might be able to challenge you. ~Natasha
S M Chess Park is about 500 feet south of the Pier, south of "Hot dog on a stick" right across the boardwalk from the original "Muscle Beach" which is now volley ball in the sand. Take Pico to the end, continue west to the end, then right turn on Appian way- drive 1/4 mile north and park. 1.00 per hour for the meter. OR be creative and find someone leaving an all day lot and buy there ticket pro-rated. Some people will just give you their parking ticket free.
Hi Kevin- This is Ken from the CCDC. We're going to try an experiment and hold an un-facilitated, 2nd Sat drum circle\jam. You're welcome to come if this sounds interesting (bring a chair and drum).
Kevin, So if you like to start a Meet-up, organize an event, all you need is a location and some willingness. You can name it: "Calabasas Chess!! Today, I'm going to Santa Monica Beach. Have you been to the Chess Park near SM Pier? Typically, 20 to 30 players of all skill levels on any weekend. I'll be there, today, from 12 to 5, and some of those guys play until sunset. Also, today, The Santa Monica Chess Club has a "proper" tournament every Saturday, but it's $25.00 for non-members.
Hi Kevin, I'm sure that you can do a lot better organizing a meet up. That 'core' of players is mostly in Pasadena, and some of us live in LA, so it's a good choice for us. BUT there are many players in your 'neck of the woods' and I can strongly suggest that you find a place near you. Any medium to large coffee shop will do, especially, if you're already a regular customer. Ask the manager if he would welcome 2 or 3 chess boards and some business as well. Then, announce it here.
Hey Kevin, Welcome to Los Angeles Chess. I suspect a low turn-out at Marie et Cie, because more of us are meeting in South Pasadena.

Hey Kevin, we try and rehearse or have an open workshop every week depending on whats coming up. We're still trying to decide on Saturday's or Sunday's at DK Dance studio for a regular weekly event. Next Friday night we'll be performing at Kiká Fulô (formerly 'Zabumba') in Culver City. I look forward to having you join us when you can!
I've heard of them. They have a large group of singers that perform with them right?
