    Hi, DB. You asked how Mahayana Buddhism, materialism, and atheism are compatible. The short answer is that Buddhism is at its core an atheistic or agnostic tradition, and its analysis of the constituent parts of the universe is compatible with materialism. There are variations on these issues among some Buddhists and among some Buddhist schools of thought, but the original texts and teachings are largely in line with materialistic atheism.
