Mysticism is not a theology or any type of Religion; simply put, it honors Self and is a process of BEING - Self-Aware or Self-Realized.

Mysticism is not new and elements can be found is All major religions; Hinduism has Meditation and Self Realization; Christianity have Christian Mysticism; Buddhism has Zen; Islam has Sufism and Judaism has Kabbalah.

The goal of the mystic is the same no matter what religion you belong to; to look deeper into the source of who you are… who made you… a desire to find what is hidden deeply within.

The Mystica is an initiate into the mysteries of life; and the pursuit of communion with one’s TRUE identity a desire for conscious awareness of the ultimate reality, divinity, spiritual truth, or God through direct experience, intuition, or insight.

The aim of Mysticism is to bring people within themselves. Self-Discovery, Self-Realization, Enlightenemnt and Illumination are the terms that we have in recent years expressed that indicates these many levels of moving beyond the hurts, fears, resentments, and mental concepts, to a point where you can come to know who you really are.

Author and mystic, Evelyn Underhill outlines the “Universal Mystic Way“, the actual process by which the mystic arrives at union with the absolute. She identifies five stages of this process.

First is the awakening, the stage in which one begins to have some consciousness of absolute or divine reality.

The second stage is one of Purifying or Cleansing which is characterized by an awareness of one's own imperfections. The response in this stage is one of self-Discipline by self-denial or self-inflicted deprivation.

The third stage, illumination, is one reached by artists and visionaries as well as being the final stage for some mystics. It is marked by a consciousness of a transcendent order and a vision of a new heaven on earth.

The great mystics go beyond the stage of illumination to a fourth stage which Underhill, calls the dark night of the soul.

This stage, experienced by the few, is one of final and complete purification and can be marked by confusion, helplessness, stagnation of the will, and a sense of the withdrawal of God's presence.

It is the period of final "un-selfing" and total surrender to the hidden purposes of the divine will. The final and last stage is one of union with the object of love, the one Reality, Absolute or God.

Here the self has been permanently established on a transcendental level and liberated for a new purpose. Filled up with the Divine Will, it immerses itself to become the mediator between humanity and eternity.

Along the way, Mysticism usually centers on a practice intended to nurture that experience and create avenues to express it’s mystical realizations.

Mysticism may be dualistic, maintaining a distinction between the self and the divine, or may be non-dualistic indicating the self-realization of the MERGEING and BEING one with the infinite absolute.

As a practicing Mystic you might find yourself with an interest in many aspects of the mysteries of life; you might delve into practicing of the sacred arts like Tarot Reading; Astrology; Spirit Messages; Channeling; Spiritualism, Music, Art, Poetry and countless other sacred healing arts.

These are some of the tools of the trade of the Mystic. These tools allows the Mystic to channel that unseen aspect of the Divine; into this world, and grant their blessings of those illuminated moments to others.
