There are approximately 2,000,000 pieces of data coming in through your senses every second. This overwhelming abundance of information is filtered through a system in our brain called the Reticular Activating System, or RAS. This system only lets in data that is important for your survival, what we place our attention on or has novelty value, and that has high emotional content. Mundane and daily routines tend to slip below this threshold and there is a lot of information that doesn't get through. Your beliefs affect this threshold level of the RAS and determine what information you will receive from your environment. This gives meaning to the statement, " You see the world as you are." You will only consciously receive the information through your senses that match your belief system.
When you are aware of your beliefs and the attitudes that support them, you can identify how they aid or hinder you from achieving your goals for health. Thoughts and beliefs practiced over and over again have an effect on the physical body. They can cause dis-order or they can provide health and harmony. Belief systems are important to our healing. To change your reality means changing your beliefs. When you accept that your thoughts are real and that they are creative, this becomes your reality. Healing occurs when you are willing to imagine something different and are willing to act on what is desired. For most people, fears and doubts override or block fulfillment in healing.
