A Double-Shot of Mark Wallace: 6pointD

*Mark* your calendars for Friday, February 23rd for the next Metaverse Meetup. Our special guest this time is the elusive Mark Wallace from 3pointD.com: First In the Metaverse (his card says it!).

For those who don't know him, Mark Wallace is editor of the Second Life Herald (secondlifeherald.com) and founder of 3pointD.com. On his watch 3pointD has become pretty much the go-to resource for news about all aspects of the metaverse: virtual worlds, games, geo, lifelogging, visualization, social networks, you name it. He's also currently guest authoring on the Terra Nova blog, which in the face of 3pointD somehow feels quaint (in a very good way).

We'll meet at our private room at Planet Thailand in Williamsburg, Brooklyn ( L train to the Bedford stop, 141 North 7th Street, Google Map: http://tinyurl.com/2y... ) and will use our evolving three act structure:

*Dinner, drinks, and shmoozing
*Return to an apartment for a short presentation from Mark
*Video games, conversation, media consumption, more drinking (if you'd like, until as late as you'd like)

Try to get there for dinner, but if you just can't make it right at six, come any time later in the evening. My cell is [masked] so you can triangulate our current position (somewhere near by).

Also and earlier, not an "official" meetup but (and here's the double-shot of Mark) this Thursday the 15th there's a gaggle going to see Uffie perform at the Hiro Ballroom: http://www.gbh.tv/ind... . Tickets are $5. For those who don't know Uffie you can check out tunes on http://myspace.com/uf... . Some people love her, some people hate her. Mark and I happen to love her and I don't think he was joking when he said Uffie should be the official mascot of 3pointD.

Sometime soon we'll also get a demo of the real life control panel for Second Life that meetuppers Bill Ward and Andy Fundinger made. Check this thing out:

As the story goes, Bill and Andy met at our first meetup and decided to work on this together. A couple months later, voila! That's so cool. How do we keep that happening?
