Meetup takeaways

Very good presentation! Here are the takeaways that I thought could be applied to my own business.

1) Be a specialist. Businesses that offer everything plus the kitchen sink don't have the same focus. They're too busy trying to be everything to everyone.

2) Used the inherent value associated with being specialized. You can be the go-to expert in your specialty. 3) Build relevant networks. Platforms like LInkedIn can help you find (and be found by) connections with similar interests and knowledge. Find opportunities to post on other blogs and forums.

3) YOU define the game - set the rules, create your own path. Make your path the conversation. Compete within that gap that you identified.

4) Being small can mean being nimble. You can quickly change directions, fill gaps that the bigger players can't. You don't need to run it by the marketing department or finance because you wear multiple hats. Or even ALL the hats!

5) Your small size means that you can offer prompt response plus direct and personal customer service. No auto-response emails, canned answers, or voice mail jail. People have become accustomed to poor customer service.
