Directorial Committee

  • Jun 12, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This in-person meetup is for deciding on a Scripts and Directors for production . When this meetup convenes we should have the 12 top-rated scripts as decided by members. People who are interested in directing should contact me now and I will send them copies of the 12 scripts for them to review. If none are satisfactory you may review other scripts in our possession or suggest other scripts. Directors will be required to pitch which scripts they would like to do and themselves to the committee.

Alright. It looks like we will delay, but we will move ahead after that. However, as soon as people can determine which scripts, if any, they may want to move forward with, I need to know so we can obtain rights. I am working on a project with Angel, so that will dominate my time, however I will offer an analysis of your project as it unfolds and support it as I can.

Alan I'm sure I already told you that I'm interested in "Missed Connections". If you can provide me with contact info for the writer I can try to look into securing rights after I return, or you can do it.

Hey Alan, I am interested in "Half Man." I am working on the pitch.

My belief is that we will pick up on lot of new recruits as a result of the 48 hour film project. That will just whet people's appetites. I think we can time things so that we start shooting our first short shortly after the 48 hour film project ends. We can also use the 48 hour film project as a way to locate more crew members and especially actors. We might also perform some training/preparation sessions that apply to both the 48 hour film project and any future shoots. We should certainly move ahead on script selection.

I agree with the comments above. I think that the 48 hour project is a bit of a distraction from our original project, but one that is worthwhile and that is time-bounded. I have every confidence that we will re-engage once the 48 hour project is wrapped, and quite possibly with an expanded talent roster.

A significant number of members of this committee have joined the 48 hour Film project. Additionally, I have not heard back from anybody who has not joined that production. I will need honest feedback on what the members of this committee want to do with this initiative, because it has stalled. We can postpone it, cancel it and seek a new direction, or the remaining members can continue with it. What say you?

We definitely want to do it and i guess we are done with major part which was finding good scripts.I think we should have a deadline for submitting the pitch as well. Just a note Bill won't be able to check this and respond till end of this week, he is out of town with limited internet access.

Jasi, I saw that you wanted to adjust certain settings on the camera for film look. I would avoid changing the contrast, sharpness etc because it would mean you would have to colorize the footage in post. You should avoid this to save time.

Many of us have spent significant time reading scripts, so I think it would be a waste not to complete our first short film. I think competing in the 48-hour film project will solidify a good working team to accomplish this goal.

The final scripts have been sent out to people who want to direct. This meeting will convene in a few weeks. Be prepared to receive copies of the scripts chosen by the directors for review. Also be prepared to assist the directors in any way possible so that they may launch a successful production.

Jim will be away for a time so a meeting will occur
in 3 weeks. I will be sending a list of requirements out to Producer/Directors shortly to help you prepare for the pitch. Once you know which scripts you would like to do email me so I can obtain the rights to them.

Directorial candidates will be receiving the top 12 scripts within a few days. Choose a script from the 12
or farther down the list and prepare to give us your artistic vision. You will also have to convince us of your directorial and/or producer capacity. You can do this with a reel or evidence of prior productions. Also delineate the equipment you have or can obtain. Jim and Bill are exempt from that because they have demonstrated their abilities already. All directorial candidates can participate in the committee deliberations but they cannot vote. This decision will only determine who should direct first with our full support. Everyone can eventually direct, only at a later time. I welcome discussion, either here or by email. Lights, camera, action!

I was going to just observe for the first couple of times, but what the heck, might as well dive into the deep end of the pool.
Please forward copies of the 12 scripts.
    Looking forward to it.

Anyone can join this committee including Directors. If there is a singular Director candidate, they will be the Director of Production One. They will still be required to pitch their scripts of choice. If multiple Directors apply, the committee shall decide the Director. Directors not chosen will be eligible to Direct subsequent productions after a short time.
Directors chosen shall be responsible for recruiting crew positions. They can use the meetup website for this purpose or another means. In any case, they will have the full support of the group. Casting will be announced later and financing options shall be determined.
