Black Friday - Black Skies Star Party

You've survived the bright lights and crazed shoppers of Black Friday!  Now come and see the dark skies on our Black Friday - Black Skies Star Party!

Enjoy the night sky away from the bright lights of the towns and cities in our area! The night will be dark - perfect for star gazing. Bring your own telescopes and binoculars or use those provided by our members.

RSVP is required at least one day beforehand. As a reminder, when you RSVP that you are attending, you will be asked to provide your license plate number. We need this to provide (number only) to the Park management who will then provide it to the State Police and State Park Police. If you are not on the list, you are not supposed to be there as we are there after park hours. If you are there and not on the list and the Police show up, we are not sure what the consequences will be.

Please review our guide to star party etiquette if you have not been to one of our star parties before:

If the weather/clouds don't cooperate, it may get pushed off to the next day (Saturday).

As usual, we will be in the West Beach parking lot at Lake Taghkanic.

Happy to help any time David. Now, the real question is, were you able to get the boys out there at 0545 with you? :)

When I arrived after six, it was mostly overcast. Only Rex and company were there imaging. After a little while more folks arrived. I chatted with Paul, Jack, and Nicole. I did not plan on staying long because I knew it would be cold-- too cold, too soon, for me. I left early just after the sky was mostly clear. The Milky Way was very clear and vivid. When I'm acclimated to the cold weather, last night would feel like Summer. Hope to see everyone next Star Party.

Cold and mostly clear. Some new folks and lots of good seeing. Jupiter and 4 moons bright enough to ruin my night vision as well as many nebulae and galaxies.

Ken, is this for Nov 29th or 22nd?

    November 17, 2013

    • Paul C.

It is the 29th according to the full year schedule I have (as approved in late 2012). I'm not aware of any changes to it so it is still on for the 29th.
