September Star Party

Enjoy the night sky away from the bright lights of the towns and cities in our area! The night will be dark - perfect for star gazing. Bring your own telescopes and binoculars or use those provided by our members. Dress very warmly--estimate clothing for 20 degrees colder than the predicted temperature.

RSVP is required at least one day beforehand. As a reminder, when you RSVP that you are attending, you will be asked to provide your license plate number. We need this to provide (number only) to the Park management who will then provide it to the State Police and State Park Police. If you are not on the list, you are not supposed to be there as we are there after park hours. If you are there and not on the list and the Police show up, we are not sure what the consequences will be.

Please review our guide to star party etiquette if you have not been to one of our star parties before:

As usual, we will be in the West Beach parking lot at Lake Taghkanic.

This is going to be my first Star Party. What time is best to show up? Also, I just purchased a second hand 9.25 SCT and was wondering if someone could help me collimate it. See you tonight.

Jeff, The star party is scheduled to start at 8 PM, but that's a bit late to get there. Anytime after about 6:30 or so should be good. I don't think they are charging now that it's after Labor Day.

I'd be interested in attending, but I'm curious if there's anyone going from the New Paltz area who would be interested in carpooling?

I am excited to meet people who have a love for astronomy and was hoping to get advise on purchasing my first telescope.

You will certainly find folks with the Astronomy bug at the Star Party! Be sure to let anyone know you are looking for info. Most are very willing to help you out, I think. You may also want to start with this link regarding what to look for in a new scope (and what to AVOID!): http://www.badastrono...

I won't be making this one - there is an event the same night on the Walkway and I am committed to that one with one of the Club Scopes. Maybe see you in the future?

Thank you for the kind words. I know this site well. I also listen to Star Talk Radio, and several other Astronomy Podcasts.

Can't make this one since the Walkway event is the same night.
